EP67 - Misfits of Science
Tuesday Jul 16, 2019
Tuesday Jul 16, 2019
It's the return of The Cox! We're back with another installment of "Friends Before Friends" and it turns out that way before she was Monica Gellar, Courtney Cox was getting her telekinesis on in the super 80s (and surprisingly meta) action comedy, Misfits of Science!! This show is absolutely chock full of cheesy jokes, awesome tunez, stunnin' shades, lasers, mini-cassette tapes, Ferraris, big hair, and white high top sneakers!! Oh and it's seriously got one of the best theme songs ever! Why was this cancelled after 16 episodes?? It's totally bitchin'!
Also, Morgan's back! Mike's tired! At some point we accidentally say "Courtney Clocks" and it made me laugh! I don't feel like writing this dumb description any more. Nobody even reads these and I spend so much time on them! Buttcrack. See, I know nobody even read that. I could just write buttcrack over and over and it wouldn't even matter. I'm not going to, because I'm a professional. But I could...

EP66 - State of Affairs
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Do you love political minutia and hate entertainment? Do you like Veep but wish it was devoid of humor? Have you always thought 24 should "just drop the whole action thing already!?" Oh boy, do we have a show for you! In a desperate attempt to find anything relevant to currently popular TV show, Stranger Things, we watched the 2014 David Harbour star vehicle (just kidding he's only a supporting character) State of Affairs! Can you believe a Katherine Heigl project was a huge failure? No way! But at least it's got President Alfre Woodard! Josh fills in for Morgan while she's "across the pond," and we struggle to make our brains absorb this exceptionally banal show.
We also try our best to talk about anything but State of Affairs, including reading the titles of books from the bookshelf, recounting direct to video National Lampoon movies, painstakingly recapping 90s Mentos commercials beat by beat, creating the hit new slang term "meeting chats," and devising the best way to trick someone into thinking you're a gem expert. As Josh always says... C.I.A.-YA LATER!

EP65 - Red Dwarf USA
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Happy Independence... Week!? We celebrate America by taking a look at what it does best: taking something from dumb old England and making it way better!! ::guitar solo:: In 1992 NBC took a crack at remaking the cult BBC sci-fi comedy hit Red Dwarf, hoping to find the next big American sitcom. Even though it never aired, and never even got a second episode, it's pretty obvious which one is better. I say that as someone who has never seen the British version, but blindly assume it is true.
Morgan's back (although she's currently in the UK, so you know where her allegiance lie...) and talking Cheese puns, big American dongs, and all of the Charles Bronsons. Plus Mike tries to remember who Craig Bierko is, pitches "Buddy Space Cops," and spills coffee all over the computer with horrifying results (thoughts and prayers). Also it's the first and last time we do Tim Allen corner. Come on you cool space babes, it's time to blast off!!

Small Reception - "Totally Not Filler"
Sunday Jun 30, 2019
Sunday Jun 30, 2019
Hey all your Bad Reception superfans, this one's for you!! We were late this week and instead of just another boring old episode, we thought we'd give you about 40 minutes of us just bullshitting and trying to come up with random questions about the shows we've watched so far. It's totally not a filler episode. And I'm sure new listeners will get a kick out of hearing us recount vague details from shows we watched in the past! It's a win win! But seriously this one was just for fun because we wanted to make sure we got something out this week, even if it was 5 days late. If you enjoy it, let us know, maybe we'll do some more of these conversational eps. If not... it's just one episode, give us a break!
If you enjoy the show please help spread the word by giving us a quick review on iTunes and sharing us with friends. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram @badreceptionpod. If you have a show you’d like us to watch, you can tweet at us or send an email to pod.badreception@gmail.com. For those links and more go to BadReceptionPod.com

EP64 - Aquaman
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Something’s fishy this week as we watch the 2006 pilot for what would have been The CW’s Aquaman! That’s right, everyone’s favorite superhero punchline, the whale whisperer himself, Aquaman, was star of his very own TV show… For one episode anyway. Also this show has A LOT to do with the Bermuda triangle. Not really sure what that's all about. Josh subs in for Morgan this week to help find out if this floundering failure belongs on the bottom of the sea.
We also discuss Beach Boys geography, octopus drummers, and James Wan's obsession with spinoffs, and then slam the show Frontiers for absolutely no reason. Also, Josh reveals some shocking news about Captain America, and can’t stop talking about the 1998 film, The Big Hit. Meanwhile, Mike unleashes his amazing Ving Rhames impression, and raves about the totally relevant GameCube hit, Eternal Darkness.

EP63 - Swamp Thing (2019)
Tuesday Jun 11, 2019
Tuesday Jun 11, 2019
We celebrate the return of Morgan(!) with a brand new show whose single episode cancellation has the internet buzzing and fans rioting, it’s the DC Universe original series, Swamp Thing! This is the first time we’ve done a show that’s still currently airing, but with all the controversy surrounding it’s ludicrously quick termination, we had to find out what all the hubbub was about! Was this tale of the classic horror hero pruned too early, or was it bogged down with a muddy production?
Morgan’s back and hitting the sauce, so you know it's gonna be a good one! We talk about our experience with Harry Potter and the Infinite Queue, how much we love good horror FX, and listen to our cat destroy the kitchen. Plus Morgan reveals her beef with Teen Wolf and her fear of being yelled at by GLaDOS, while Mike preposes the perfect exterminator con and defends his amazing Alligator doctor joke! #ShowMeYourSwampThang

EP62 - Point Pleasant
Tuesday Jun 04, 2019
Tuesday Jun 04, 2019
I've heard of daddy issues, but this is ridiculous! This week we watched as the lady anti-Christ turned against her old man (aka, Satan!), in 2005's super soapy, Good vs Evil drama, Point Pleasant! It may have only lasted 8 episodes but Mike is still pining over the loss of this obscure Fox failure, co-created by former Buffy showrunner Marti Noxon. Speaking of Buffy, Chevy returns to fill in for Morgan, and The Slayer is definitely on her brain, but don't worry she still discusses Point Pleasant (and Point Break?), even if she'd rather be talking about Xander and Willow (which she also does).
We also recap Twilight: Breaking Dawn for no particular reason, discuss the advantages of taking medicine with alcohol, and remind ourselves that people can be different ages than us. Plus Chevy (rightfully) points out that Mike is a 16 year old girl, criticizes his movie library organization, and brags about hugging Nicholas Brendan. Mike meanwhile disses Supernatural, talks about less famous siblings of Hollywood actors, and brags about winning a meaningless award one million years ago!!

EP61 - Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm
Tuesday May 28, 2019
Tuesday May 28, 2019
Hold on to your joysticks (and internal organs!), this week we watched the television adaptation of the most notorious video game of the 90s, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm! Brent from Home Video Hustle is back to fill in for Morgan, and he brings his ridiculously detailed knowledge of all things Kombat! No character is too obscure, no back story too insignificant, Brent knows these violent ninjas, robots, demons, and more, better than most people know their loved ones! But how can a kids Saturday morning cartoon capture the graphically gratuitous nature of this fatality-filled fighting favorite?
Mike and Brent discuss all their favorite (and least favorite) Kombat Karacters, the Star War prequels, and how Highlander II is superior to the first. Plus Brent gets down into some really deep cut MK games, defends the inexcusably awful movie sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and breaks down all the things the TV show got wrong! It's a spine-ripping, face-melting, heart-crushing good time!!
Was Defenders of the Realm a flawless victory, or were we screaming to “Finish It!?” Listen now to find out!

EP60 - Samurai Pizza Cats
Tuesday May 21, 2019
Tuesday May 21, 2019
Holy Cats! What do you get when you mix feline cyborgs, ancient Japanese warriors, and the most delicious food on the planet?? The 1990 animated import, Samurai Pizza Cats! It’s a veritable fancy feast of puns, guns, parody, and hilarity, and almost certainly the only show to feature robot cats being launched out of a gun-shaped pizzeria! Morgan is absent again, but we’ve got a More Gooder substitute, “Crushin’ It” Chris Braaten! Plus an all new robotronic Morgan replacement, Cy-Morg!
Mike (aka "Pizza Mike") makes some shocking accusations about the notable lack of a certain titular cheese pie in the show, and recounts stories about video stores and VCRs that reveal that he’s an old white-bearded man. Plus Chris questions the logic of the Power Rangers fighting strategy, and declares pistachio ice cream to be the best flavor(?!)

EP59 - Mann & Machine
Tuesday May 07, 2019
Tuesday May 07, 2019
Crime is a computer virus… She’s the cure! We watched the absolutely ridiculous, ultra-90s cyber-police procedural, Mann & Machine! From the creator of Law and Order comes the classic story of a grumpy butthole police detective who hates robots but is forced to team up with a beautiful and acrobatic android who has a pre-school education and a love of chocolate donuts! What a mismatched pair! Zany robo-antics most definitely ensue.
This week Mike is joined by guest host Tiffany since Morgan is on the other side of the country (but don’t worry, she still makes an appearance). That means you’re in for plenty of talk about sexy robot lawyers, the consistency of android skin, and the dangers of secondhand smoke on robots. Plus Tiff gives a detailed history of The Fast and the Furious, Mike wonders why no one can close a car door, and we cross our fingers that Dick Wolf finally steps in front of the camera and shows the world his acting abilities!
